Chapter 2 Simple Linear Regression
نویسنده
چکیده
We start with the simple case of studying the relationship between a response variable Y and a predictor variable X I . Since we have only one predictor variable, we shall drop the subscript in X I and use X for simplicity. We discuss covariance and correlation coefficient as measures of the direction and strength of the linear relationship between the two variables. Simple linear regression model is then formulated and the key theoretical results are given without mathematical derivations, but illustrated by numerical examples. Readers interested in mathematical derivations are referred to the bibliographic notes at the end of the chapter, where books that contain a formal development of regression analysis are listed.

Interval linear regression
In this paper, we have studied the analysis an interval linear regression model for fuzzy data. In section one, we have introduced the concepts required in this thesis and then we illustrated linear regression fuzzy sets and some primary definitions. In section two, we have introduced various methods of interval linear regression analysis. In section three, we have implemented nu...
متن کاملEstimation of Linear Panel Data Models Using Gmm
In this chapter we study GMM estimation of linear panel data models. Several different types of models are considered, including the linear regression model with strictly or weakly exogenous regressors, the simultaneous regression model, and a dynamic linear model containing a lagged dependent variable as a regressor. In each case, different assumptions about the exogeneity of the explanatory v...
متن کاملMultivariate Nonparametric Regression
As in many areas of biostatistics, oncological problems often have multivariate predictors. While assuming a linear additive model is convenient and straightforward, it is often not satisfactory when the relation between the outcome measure and the predictors is either nonlinear or nonadditive. In addition, when the number of predictors becomes (much) larger than the number of independent obser...
متن کاملNew Approach in Fitting Linear Regression Models with the Aim of Improving Accuracy and Power
The main contribution of this work lies in challenging the common practice of inferential statistics in the realm of simple linear regression for attaining a higher degree of accuracy when multiple observations are available, at least, at one level of the regressor variable. We derive sufficient conditions under which one can improve the accuracy of the interval estimations at quite affordable ...
متن کاملPractical Aspects of the Use of Linear & Generalized Linear Models
Primarily, the purpose of this document is to note issues for the use of linear and generalized linear models, and of other regression models. Worked examples, as far as possible using data that have been a basis for published research, are used as a basis for discussion of the following issues: Missing variables; noting very striking examples that arise in multi-way tables, perhaps modeled usi...
